The Links Are Dead But We Are Not

As you may have noticed many mediafire links here and elsewhere are down (most of the high traffic links) and big blogs are dropping all over the place so I felt that an update was appropriate.

We will not be replacing the links that are dead as, for me personally, I'm pretty busy as it is and the amount that are down are too numerous for me to search out and replace. There are posts that get less traffic that have the links up for now (but I can't say they'll stay like that for long) and the bandcamp links obviously still work.

However we are not dead. Equivoke will be taking example from JGD at The Living Doorway and continue hosting, reviewing, supporting, and promoting albums and bands (requests or not) until it's just no longer possible.

Equivoke is small relative to other popular music blogs out there so it's not a huge blow to the music sharing community if we disappear, but I and others here enjoy doing this and want to continue. Maybe if Sagi and others want to turn this into something else when that happens (maybe something like the guys over at HSS have done) we'll do that but for now we're keeping shit alive.

Enjoy it while it lasts and thanks for reading our posts, supporting the bands, and following our blog guys!

EDIT:

Just wanted to add a little info on what's happening to the file sharing sites, according to Finsternis (and various tech news sites) who just recently declared they're shutting their blog down due to the link purging that fellow blogs such as The Elementary Revolt, Coffinpslams, The Living Doorway, Forever Cursed, I Don't Care About Sleep, and many others are reeling from. No word on rapidshare (they're claiming to be completely legal) or Zshare at the moment but I'm sure they're soon to follow.

From Finsternis:

The Aftermath of MegaUpload takedown →
  • - MegaUpload - Closed.
  • - FileServe - Closing does not sell premium.
  • - FileJungle - Deleting files. Locked in the U.S..
  • - UploadStation - Locked in the U.S..
  • - FileSonic - the news is arbitrary (under FBI investigation).
  • - VideoBB - Closed! would disappear soon.
  • - Uploaded - Banned U.S. and the FBI went after the owners who are gone.
  • - FilePost - Deleting all material (so will leave executables, pdfs, txts)
  • - Videoz - closed and locked in the countries affiliated with the USA.
  • - 4shared - Deleting files with copyright and waits in line at the FBI.
  • - MediaFire - Called to testify in the next 90 days and it will open doors pro FBI
  • -Org torrent - could vanish with everything within 30 days "he is under criminal investigation"
  • - Network Share mIRC - awaiting the decision of the case to continue or terminate Torrente

  2. Well. There are ways to try and stay, one we do not have the rar files names the same as the artist/album name. I usually use just series of letters and I've been doing it for years ever since I started getting DMCA's left and right. It's worked and kept my links alive.

The other thing is, we can continue to write about music like JGD or something else like HSS. And instead of links to direct download sites we can link band pages, like what you already do.

The problem is you and me both try before buy. It'll be hard for us to share music when there aren't many ways for us to find them and listen. I would suggest what.cd but they're so anal about ratio that the music we listen to would just get us banned.

    1. True, I mean I've done the rar file name trick before though I haven't done it much lately tbh. A lot of times I just use links available elsewhere too. I think that won't work as well with things as they're developing now but it's worth a shot.

Regarding your other points I'm in agreement. The "try before buy" issue will complicate things but until that option is completely gone we'll do it like we always have. Bandcamp will make things a little easier. Never tried what.cd so I don't know much about it.

Once it does become impossible to share files I think going legit like HSS and just writing reviews/updates/promotional posts is all we could do (until another method of sharing is created). I'm cool with that tbh but we'll have to figure out a way to keep a steady flow of music though. I regularly buy stuff from many labels/artists but that won't always be possible and not everyone here can do the same.

  3. Will Mediafire really be called to testify in the next 90 days or is that just a rumor?

    1. Probably just a rumor at this point. All the news on Mediafire I've read recently is them claiming they're completely legit and not based on piracy, not worried about being taken down, etc.

  4. This is just incredible, man... Honestly didn't think this would happen to so many sites, and so quickly. Keep it going. There will always be another way.

  5. That list is somewhat bollocks.

VideoBB is still working, FileServe is still selling premium accounts etc.

    1. It's possible it was a prediction and I was just reading it wrong. Either way I agree with you sir. Maybe I'll update it with more accurate news on those sites' situations.
