Doomtree - No Kings [2011/320]

Artists like Dessa have been posted before, and P.O.S has been referenced a few times on this blog, but they are all just a part of the Doomtree record label and collective hip-hop group. No Kings is a showcase of each members talent, placed over a lot of industrial sounding beats, and riddled with some of the finest wordplay you'll hear this year. If you like any artists from Rhymesayers or Strange Famous Records, you will love this most likely, and it goes without saying that fans of any of the artists from Doomtree will adore it as well.

Junius/Rosetta - Split [2011/320]

I actually saw Junius a couple days ago, having only heard their previous album before then, and this split. If you've heard Junius before, you probably wouldn't expect them to be heavy live, but wow. I completely underestimated them, and they easily stole the show for me (Alcest and Enslaved were playing that night too). It's easy to see now why they did a split with Rosetta. Both theirs and Rosetta's songs complement each other very nicely on this album, and though the split is only two songs long they are a great two songs and worth your time to check out if you're a fan of any of these bands.

Artist: Junius/Rosetta
Album: Split
Release Year: 2011
Genre: Indie Rock/Post-Metal/Sludge Metal

Light Bearer - Lapsus [2011/320]

Comprised of members of Fall of Efrafa and Dungeons, Light Bearer takes the post-hardcore sounds of Rinoa and Envy, and blends it with post-rock melodies that give it it's own unique sound. This is a must-listen for 2011, and it's easily one of my favourite albums of the year, if not my favourite.

Atmosphere - When Life Gives You Lemons... [320/2008]

This is easily one of my favourite hip hop albums ever. The album is produced extremely well, and each song has it's own unique feel to it. This, complemented with Slug's trademark storytelling makes the album an enjoyable and diverse experience. Songs like "Your Glasshouse" and "Shoulda Known" provide a dark, gritty atmosphere; "You" with a very 'poppy' sound that sticks in your head; "Guarantees" and "Me" a more sorrowful presentation, and everything else is in between these extremes. Seriously recommended for hip hop fans.

Lesbian - Stratospheria Cubensis [2010/320]

Here's a nice find. While not earth-shattering in originality, it's a pretty heavy album with some nice progressive bits. I assure you, the band's name in no way relates to their sound. Also happens to be one of the few stoner albums this year that I've enjoyed. If I have one complaint about it though, it would be the length of it. There's over 70 minutes of content here, but it's not really justified in any way and will likely bore the average listener before it's over. Regardless, if you're looking for a stoner fix, this will do fine.

Artist: Lesbian
Album: Stratospheria Cubensis
Release Year: 2010
Genre: Progressive Stoner/Doom Metal

1. Poisonous WitchBall
2. Poverty and War Forever

I've heard these guys a little while back when I was looking more into TotorRo. I was very impressed with what I heard and have been looking forward to this album for a while. Rogue Sounds - Transmission [2010/320]

I was actually asked directly by the band to post this on here, and thus here it is. I have listened to it myself and it is a very solid record. In fact, it's one of my favourite EP's this year. It might be interesting to know, the album was produced by Ed Brooks, who has worked with Russian Circles and Fall of Troy, previously. I definitely recommend this to Post-Rock/Post-Metal fans.
