Instrumental band formed by the ex-bassist of Amenra along with the current guitarist of Liar, this is their first album after a split with Amenra. The guitar tone is a little too thin at points for me but generally it's some heavy post-metal with electronic influences, lots of sampling, mid-paced heavy riffing, etc. Not necessarily ground-breaking but certainly enjoyable for people who like Lento, Empires, Supercontinent, Dirge, Rosetta, Light Bearer.

This has had a lot of hype around it pending its release. Hardcore that tears the earth up coming from another young band on Southern Lord, a lot of the tracks here run longer than traditional hardcore songs but they're packed to the brim with explosive and heavy riffing , hoarse screaming — all that fantastic shit.

Absu were one of the first "underground" metal acts I was introduced to and they're still one of my favorite bands despite the fact two main members are gone and their last release was a little on the weak side. While Tara is probably their best record and easily my favorite, this is practically on the same level.

There's four chaotic tracks here and one appears on Tara, all of them are fast-paced and very well written thrashy black metal. Proscriptor's drumming is truly legendary, intricate, fast, and odd as are his twisted and strange vocals. The riffs are blazing, catchy and vicious, lyrics surround occult celtic/sumerian mythology — real killer stuff. There really isn't another band like Absu.

I'm a little late on this one but with their new album "Visions of the Scourge" is on the horizon now is a great time to get this up anyway. Begrime Exemious are from Alberta and like Mitochondrion, Adversarial, Antediluvian and Weapon are at the forefront of the massive and crushing wave of dark, twisted and well written Canadian death and black metal that is turning heads in the community. If you enjoy those aforementioned groups and haven't heard this get on it!

This is dark and quite different from Fell Voices, taking a more traditional death metal route with deep beastial growls and yells, dirty riffs, and furious drumming. It's a short taste of what to expect later and boy is it promising. You'll soon be able to snag a copy at Fallen Empire.
