Recently Equivoke reached 200 followers which is something I consider impressive for a relatively small and insignificant blog in an ocean of music blogs. It's been a strange year with SOPA/PIPA and the continued interruptions in file sharing, big blogs shutting down and all that scary yet seemingly insignificant shit we all bitch about. But we're still here and going strong, and that's the plan to for the future as well.

Having said that I wanted to take a second to thank all the people following us, anyone who's spread the word and recommended checking us out, those bands or artists who have taken interest in the blog and sent in review requests (we've had quite a few excellent ones and some yet to be posted), and all the people who have supported the bands who's material we post up here. My personal thanks to Sagi for bringing me on board a while back despite my reluctance.

I also like to express my sincere gratitude and reverence to our fellow blog brethren especially Forever Cursed, The Living Doorway, Pervert the Church, Slays For Days, Hammer Smashed Sound, Perpetual Strife, Curse of the Great White Elephant, The Elementary Revolt, and The Inarguable. Continue the good fight gentlemen.

In the same vein, I want to give a solemn farewell to Coffinpsalms and JT. He has decided to call it quits which is unfortunate as he and his blog were an excellent source of all things metal. RIP sir.

It looks like this year is going to be another incredible year for music what with upcoming new albums from Gorguts, Amenra. Portal, Anhedonist, Witchrist, Dephosphorus, Skagos, Wrathprayer, Aldebaran, Velnias, Ash Borer, Fell Voices, and Oxbow on the horizon (among many others) not to mention the already stellar releases we've seen from Pallbearer, Ignivomous, Spawn of Possession, Black Breath, Mgła and many others — or how about the announcement that the master Jon Levasseur has returned to Cryptopsy, the amazing line up for the Gilead Media festival, Ulcerate finally touring North America, Nasum making a final trip on the road, Refused announcing a return a tour, as well as news from Kiss It Goodbye that they've reformed and are touring.

Here's a few somewhat related things for you guys to enjoy. First a rare appearance by Canadian doom giants Sound Asleep. I managed to get their whole 32 minute set recorded. It's a single new track and it's massive, they don't play often so getting to seem them collapse this venue into rubble was a real privilege.

Second is a track from the new Anhedonist album "Netherwards" (go fucking preorder that shit). This will surely be a crushing journey of the darkest doom.

And last is a short documentary titled "Don't Call Me I Won't Call You" on the Toronto underground with input from members of two local legends: hardcore thrashers Cursed and elegant sludge masters Mare. There's some clips of Gates playing their special Halloween show as well which I was lucky enough to attend, but it's largely interviews with members of the two aforementioned bands on the scene as they see it.

Again, our greatest and sincere thanks to the fans of the underground and good music in general for helping us grow, supporting the underground, and sharing your thoughts. Please continue to support the bands above all else. We'll be here until we aren't and we hope you'll continue to follow along with us.
